A good friend of mine recently dyed her hair a fiery copper hue, and while I think she’s never looked better, she told me she’s struggling to figure out what colors look good on her. Aside from the obvious neutrals, I’ve found that there’s one shade that is chicness incarnate on every single redhead on the planet.

You absolutely can’t go wrong with emerald green! Redhead celebs have been proving it for years–remember the stunning Proenza Schouler gown Amy Adams wore to the 2008 Oscars? Or Marcia Cross’s full-skirted number from the 2005 Emmys? Or practically everything Julianne Moore has ever worn?

Here’s why it works: Red and green are complimentary colors (ie, they sit across from each other on the color wheel), so they bring out the best tones in one another. Redheads also tend to have fair skin, and a rich shade of emerald can help highlight that dewy glow, instead of washing you out, like a lot of other colors can. Wearing green will also show the world that you love your red hair, that it’s a feature that deserves to be flaunted instead of tucked back in a ponytail (notice how most of the ladies above are letting their gorgeous locks flow freely??). In short: If you’re a redhead, you’ve gotta get yourself an emerald green dress!

What other colors do you think bring out the best in your hair? Share!

“I’m skinny and short but I have fat around my waist and belly,” writes What To Wear Reader Lalalala. “What clothes do you think I should wear, and which ones should I avoid?” Well…

our best fashion friends? Empire-style dresses and tops—the flowiness will camouflage your tummy, but because the nipped in waist defines curves, you won’t look like you’re trying to hide in a sack, like you would in an all-over baggy top. OK, that was easy, but here’s where you can run into trouble: pants. Most women tend to go for lower-rise ones because they want to avoid the dreaded mom-pants look. But here’s what I learned after I had my first daughter, when my stomach was carrying a little more jiggle than normal. Mid to high-rise pants that hit just below to right above your belly button are miracle workers. That extra bit of fabric helps control and hide a little pooch quite nicely, plus the long line (the pants should go to your ankle if they’re skinny and cover everything but the toe of your shoe if wider) will make your legs look a mile long. Go for a sleek straight silhouette or classic sailor style and you’ll look nowhere near mumsy.

Do you have a little pooch? What’s your best slimming style trick?

“I just bought these beautiful Halogen boots for Fall,” says What To Wear reader jlad5678. “They are taller than boots I am used to wearing, so what kinds of skirts and dresses would work?” My answer…

Nice pick! Not only are these black knee boots really cute, they’re super versatile—you can wear them with pretty much any length skirt from mini to new-for-Fall maxi-length ones! But let me say that one of my all-time favorite sexy looks is a tall, slim boot with a sleek, longish pencil skirt. This pairing is even more appropriate now since knee-length and below hemlines are going to be so hot. What to wear on top? If you want to up the now-ness of your outfit try a fitted shirt with a close-cut little leather jacket over it or go the complete opposite direction and cozy up in a belted bulky sweater.

What are you most excited to wear next season?

<fb:like href='http://blog.stylit.tv/4-fab-alternatives-to-getting-a-brazilian-blowout/' layout='default' show_faces='false' width='400' action='like' colorscheme='light' />

I don’t know about you guys, but it seems like every gal I know either has (or is talking about getting) a Brazilian blowout. The only problem is that it can be kinda pricey (usually between $150-$600 depending on where you go). So, before you shell out all that money, try these easy at-home alternatives first!

OK confession: I received the Brazilian blowout last summer and I swear that it changed my life in that I never really thought that it would be possible to ever have frizz free hair for so long. However, I decided not to get one this summer and instead added these products (and practices!) into my hair routine. Luckily, they’ve been giving me the same kind of effect as the Brazilian blowout…minus the price tag of course. Hurrah!

1. Avon Advance Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield ($10)
Out of all the frizz free hair products I’ve tried recently, this one is my fave! It’s a leave-in hair treatment that you apply to your hair while wet after washing and then just style as normal. Regardless of whether you use heat on your hair when styling, it forms a barrier around your hair to repel moisture. The best part is that you don’t have to keep re-applying: it stays in your hair for up to three days even if you wash it! It’s a lazy gal’s dream!

2. Neil George Indian Gooseberry Oil ($42)
Alright, I know it’s a bit pricey and it sounds like it would be extremely heavy (and weird!) to put oil on your hair. But, my fine curly hair happens to attract frizz while I’m hanging out at the pool or beach. So, colorist Amanda George from the Neil George Salon suggested that I dampen my hair first and then apply the oil. When you do get in the water, the oil creates a barrier on your tresses keeping it moist so as you sunbathe your hair won’t turn into a frizz ball. Another great (yet cheaper) alternative is the Carol’s Daughter Khoret Amen Hair Oil.

3. My Cream/Hairspray Cocktail
Here’s a little trick that I picked up while hanging out backstage and chatting with hairstylists during the Fall 2010 shows of Fashion Week: squeeze out some anti-frizz hair cream (I love Pantene’s Curly Hair Style Anti-Frizz Creme) into your hand; spray a bit of hairspray on top of it (my pick is Bumble and Bumble’s Spray De Mode); rub hands together and then distribute throughout hair, focusing mostly on ends. The cream works to smooth your strands and the hairspray helps to keep the frizz out.

3. Cold Water (free! well, unless you have to pay a water bill that is…)
Before jumping out the shower, rinse your hair in cold water for about 5 minutes. It seals your hair cuticle and cuts down on fly aways making your hair appear instantly smoother after you style. Easy!

You should definitely share some of your frizz fighting practices below!

The long, fairy-tale waves are history! Scarlett Johansson debuted her new look at Comic Con this past weekend, proving to the world that she’s totally gorgeous no matter what hairdo she decides to flaunt — making the rest of us extremely jealous. Her new short, just-rolled-out-of-bed style not only gives the star an edgier vibe, but it frames her face in the perfect way — not that she needs a new haircut to make her famous features stand out. We’re kind of inspired.
